Via Marginal Revolution, an article in the Guardian describes how UK schools are highering bouncers/doormen for crowd control and to cover for absent teachers. A teacher is quoted as saying they are good at this because they are “stern and loud”. From what I remember of high school, it’s probably a decent idea.

For a while I considered teaching high school math, but I didn’t think I’d be very good with the disciplining students side of the job. I don’t think I’d make a good bouncer for the same reason. In general, any job were “stern and loud” are good qualities probably isn’t for me.
