The ban on lighters on airplanes has been lifted, apparently cause somebody realized a) you can’t spread all that much terror with a teeny-tiny flame, and b) if your determined to use such a flame to spread terror, it won’t be too hard to get one going without a lighter. According to the nyTimes, the cost of disposing of seized lighters has been around $4 mil a year. I wish somebody had offered me $1 mil for a better way to get rid of them: Put them in a bin outside baggage claim.

Hopefully this is the first step in getting rid of some of the other ridiculous restrictions (the ban on liquids comes to mind) that were enacted after idiots failed to pull off ridiculous attempts at sabotage.
